Abstract

Claudio Ciociola, "Storia della tradizione" e varianti d'autore (Barbi, Pasquali, Contini)

This paper discusses Pasquali's positions compared to those of Barbi and Contini on old vs. new philology. Those scholars read and reacted to each other and to Bédier. Pasquali did not accept Bédier's theses; Contini, from Romanic philology, had a more open approach to them. By the end of his life, Pasquali was more cautious in finding authorial variants in classical texts.
