Abstract

, Ecdosis

Platform for the creation of scholarly digital editions developed by Desmond Schmidt (so it is not built around the TEI XML format) and based on AustEse. Ecdosis is a set of tools for digitising cultural heritage texts for the Web and ebooks. ‘Cultural heritage texts’ include both literary (e.g. novels, poetry, short stories) and historical works (e.g. letters, journals, newspapers, historical documents). They are all precious in some way – for example, they may be the earliest (or only) evidence for a particular work, and their publication requires delicate handling. Without proper digital publication these documents will remain locked away in libraries, accessible only to researchers. Making this material available to a wider public is the basic goal of Ecdosis.
